Time for sewing

It is lovely to have some time off work. Catching up with friends and of course some sewing and gardening!!

Spotted these bargain packs at Ballarat Patchwork and just had to get them. I have never sewn with Chenille before, so thought I would have a go since I am on holidays.

I rushed home with them and started - what a mess when I started cutting!!

A lovely quick and easy pattern, I have enjoyed working on it!

One pack down, one to go. I have decided to sew the two together to make a nice snuggle rug for the couch. Hopefully I will get back to it tomorrow.

Thankyou for the lovely cupcake Annie. It is sitting on my sewing table!!!

Perfect weekend for the garden

I have spent a lovely weekend working in the garden. The lawn is mowed, some plants are trimmed, the compost has been used and the wine barrels have been filled, ready for planting!!!

It is nice to have caught up a bit.

No sewing or crafting undertaken, although I did collect my friendship quilt from our local quilting lady, Elizabeth. I am very pleased with the result - I would never have got it finished if I quilted it myself. I have to decide the best colour to bind it, not sure - any ideas?

While I was there I dropped off the stitchery quilt, now I am looking forward to getting that one completed also.

Getting back on track

What an exhausting two weeks we have had here. After our lovely relaxing weekend away we have all been unwell, there have been many days off work and school and lots of laying on the couches!!! The kids and I are much better than we were, it seems to take awhile to get over it completely. Therefor there has not been much happening in the sewing department.

We have our school concert this week. The children in my grade are so excited. I have spent a lot of time this weekend sewing costumes.

I have displayed a quilt which has finally been finished. I began this applique quilt before I had the children. It is nice to now have it hanging above my sewing machine.

Spring is definitely on its way. The flowers are blooming and the tree ferns are showing new life!!

Relaxing Weekend

The kids and I have had a lovely weekend relaxing in Geelong. It was nice to get away and spend some quality time together. A girl friend and her children joined us for one night also. We had a good catch up and the children entertained themselves quite well
I did manage a little stitching time and did some work on this Sanctuary block. This is one of nine which will form a lovely patchwork quilt.

I recently joined a Block of the month, for "Girls Day Out". This too, will be a lovely stitchery and patchwork quilt once complete. I couldn't help myself, I just had to get started!!! I will have to get busy and divide my time between the two.

Then there is also the New York Beauties, and some quilting to do and some binding to complete and, and, and ....!!!!! The list goes on. Hopefully extra sewing time this week as we have a meeting free week at school.

A cold winters day at home

What a cold day we have had today!!! Kids have been unwell so it was a good day to be at home in front of the heater.

The kids decided to "Experiment" in the kitchen. Fortunately the 10 year old had done this before. What great effects, just had to take some pics.
He poured some milk into a saucer, added some drops of food dye and then dipped a tooth pick into some detergent before dipping into the milk. Of course we didn't escape without some spilt milk!!!! They had a lovely time.

I managed to do some sewing today too. A few more New York beauties!!

At the end of a cold day in Ballarat - it snowed, the kids were sooo excited!!!!!! ( I was just a little excited too) Just beautiful.

Craft Show

We had a lovely time at the recent craft show. Here are some of my purchases! I bought the black and whites and reds for the New York Beauties I have been working on. The fabric squares because I liked them and the floral fabric will be a major part of a stitchery quilt I am working on. Hopefully I will have some sewing time this weekend.

Pretty things in winter

Posted by PicasaThe winter roses in my garden are just beautiful this year. Inspired by Annie I just had to experiment with the photo's. It has also been a nice day to potter in the garden while the children played with friends.

Stitcheries

A passion at the moment is completing stitcheries and then making them into quilts with various patchwork blocks. I enjoy the stitching and then the patchwork side as well. These flower blocks were great to take anywhere.

Back at work

The sewing has slowed down now that term three has begun. Will look forward to the next hol's!!

Have managed to put these bird house blocks together. These were made as friendship blocks with a wonderful group of local ladies. It is so nice to look at and think of everyone in the group.
Off to the craft show in Melbourne next weekend - can't wait!!

The holidays are flying by. I have been busy catching up with friends and some very productive sewing time. A sewing day with the girls was most enjoyable. It has been great spending time at home with the kids. Pa made a puppet theatre for the kids, I made the red curtains with the gold trim (as requested) and my 8 year old girl added the final decorations. I recently took part in a New York Beauties class, so decided to try this pattern using black, red and gold, all different colours for me!

on holidays

I have viewed a few blogs and thought what a great way to share our love for sewing and craft. I am on holidays at the moment and have been spending quite a bit of time sewing and sorting through some UFO's (unfinished objects!!!) It has been lovely and I look forward to a few more days of it to come.
